The road to Waldorf…

It’s almost been a year since I started this blog and decided to home educate. I remember in the beginning I had no idea what route I was taking, I was still learning – well, to be honest, I’m still learning! But I have finally decided, after pondering many styles of home education for the past year, that Waldorf education is the one that feels right for our family. I consider myself pagan and I like to follow the rhythms of the sun, the seasons and the moon etc. so discovering that Waldorf education also follows the seasons, is also in touch with nature and the natural rhythms of life, made this particular style very appealing. Things may change – but as it stands, I have fallen in love with it.

At the moment, I am in the process of decluttering our home in an attempt to have a calmer environment for the girls. I’ve donated about a third of our toys so far – and to my surprise, they seem much happier. I’ve also reduced the amount of clothes they have – a lot of stuff barely fits anymore.

We will be drastically reducing screen time. So, no computer, no games consoles, no tablet and very minimal TV – I’m not saying no to TV completely, simply because I believe there is no harm in watching the odd film every now and then. I love snuggling up with my girls, popcorn and a film, occasionally. At the end of the day different things work for different families and we are just doing what works well for us.

As of next week, I will be introducing circle time in the morning. We will sing songs, talk about what we might do that day and talk about the weather, days of the week and seasons of the year.

I’m so excited for what the future holds and I’m so happy we have found a style of education we truly love. We are on the road to Waldorf.
